Dr. Thompson’s research focuses on documenting exposure to emerging contaminants and assessing their associated health risks. He is the Associate Director of UI’s Center of Health Effects of Environmental Contamination (CHEEC), a state-sponsored research center focused on improving the environmental quality and public health. His work examines pesticide mixtures and per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) through biomonitoring, environmental monitoring, and epidemiological studies. He is particularly interested in understanding the relationships between these exposures and human health outcomes.
