Dr. Ashida’s training and expertise include aging and gerontology, dementia caregiving, health behavior interventions, social network and support, community-engaged research, implementation research, and workforce development. Her research focuses on identifying social factors that facilitate or deter health, and to develop social network interventions to promote healthy aging in place. Currently, she is a PI on the Disaster PrepWise study, which tests the impact of Disaster PrepWise intervention on caregiver outcomes such as resilience and stress (NIA R01). She is also active in workforce training, serving as the Director of the Public Health Practice and Workforce Development Core at the Institute for Public Health Practice, Research, and Policy; Co-Director of the Midwestern Public Health Training Center (MPHTC); and Co-Director of the Iowa Public Health AmeriCorps Program. As one of the 10 regional public health training centers funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), MPHTC support the development, implementation, and evaluation of state-of-the-art health and public health training programs. For the Public Health Practice Core and Public Health AmeriCorps program, she works closely with local and state health departments, local emergency management agencies, Area Agencies on Aging, and other non-profit organizations to develop delivery infrastructure to implement and sustain health programs in community.
